As SPD enters its golden anniversary, it is more committed than ever to put the focus of the competition on the work that has been produced, with a revamped approach that is designed to create a more level playing field for all participants. SPD believes that the new rules and structure of the SPD publication design competition, developed by the team of competition chairs and the SPD executive board, will help recognize all the outstanding work being done across numerous print and digital genres.
Time is winding down to enter work in the Society of Publication Designers’ annual competition — Pub50. Recognizing the best editorial creativity in print and digital, Pub50 celebrates the Society’s 50th anniversary with a new and improved competition format.
This year’s competition is chaired by FRED WOODWARD (Design Director, GQ) and FLORIAN BACHLEDA (Creative Director, Fast Company). In February, a panel of over 40 of the top art directors, designers, photo editors, and editors will view all of the work and choose the best to be awarded gold and silver medals at the Society’s annual black-tie awards gala in May. Merit awards will also be awarded in all categories.
A full-color, beautifully printed hardcover book (available in late 2015 at www.shop-spd.org) reproduces the winning pieces from the competition, and is an invaluable resource for anyone working in editorial design.
